thawte offers even stronger identity authentication with new Extended Validation SSL Certificates |
|
Malicious Internet activity is eroding user confidence in digital security, especially when it comes to activities such as online shopping and banking. More specifically, the growing problem of phishing is making it difficult for website visitors to identify when a web site is legitimate and when it is not.
To reverse this trend the Certificate Authority (CA)/Browser Forum, a roundtable of industry experts, has created the Extended Validation SSL standard. This new standard defines a stronger online identity assurance process and introduces a new browser display method for clearly identifying authenticated sites to the end user.
As a leading CA, thawte has been dedicated to offering unquestionable online identity assurance processes and procedures for over a decade. Now we are among the first CAs to offer certificates that meet the new Extended Validation SSL standard.
The Extended Validation SSL standard sets the bar for SSL Certificate authentication higher than ever before in order to inspire more confidence and trust in Internet users. The standard mandates an extensive process for confirming the identity and business legitimacy of a certified web site. In addition to the improved online identity assurance benefits, leading browsers will recognize this higher level of certification and display a new style of address bar. The new browser interface does much more than simply display a lock icon: it turns the address bar green and displays a field with the identity of the web site and the certifying authority for the certificate. The new address bar provides the user with a more clearly identifiable sign that this site can be trusted which can result in fewer abandoned e-commerce sessions for certified web sites.
thawte is dedicated to building a trusted digital future for the Internet. As a member of the CA/Browser Forum, thawte works with the American Bar Association Information Security Committee, browser manufacturers such as Microsoft, Mozilla, Opera and KDE and other leading CAs to define online identity assurance standards.
Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) is the first browser to support Extended Validation SSL. The green address bar interface automatically functions with IE7 running on Windows Vista. IE7 on Windows XP requires a root update to recognize Extended Validation SSL. thawte provides customers EV Upgrader™ (a US $300.00 value) at no additional charge to enable the Extended Validation functionality for all site visitors running IE7 on Windows XP. Without this tool, Windows XP users may not see the new interface features. Click here to learn more about thawte's new SSL Web Server Certificates with EV
