Certificate installation Instructions

Note: If you have a SSL Web Server Certificate, SSL123 Certificate or SSL Web Server Wildcard Certificate please follow steps 1 to 8. If you have a SGC SuperCert please follow steps 1 to 11.

1. Start the certificate installation process:

Under Administrative Tools, open the Internet Services Manager. Then open up the properties window for the website you wish to request the certificate for. Right-clicking on the particular website will open up its properties.

2. Click the Directory Security tab

Click the Directory Security tab and then click on the "Server Certificate" button in the Secure communications section. This will start the Web Site Certificate Wizard.

3. Select to “Process the pending request and Install the certificate.”

From the Web Site Certificate Wizard, select the "Process the Pending Request and Install the Certificate " option.

4. Select the certificate file to install

Type in the location of the certificate response file (you may also browse to the file), and then click Next. (save the certificate in a notepad file with a .cer extension)

5. Specify the SSL port number

Specify SSL port 443 which is the default secure port.

6. Confirm the certificate details

Read the summary screen to be sure that you are processing the correct certificate, and then click Next.

7. Click "Finish" to complete the installation process

You will see a confirmation screen. When you have read this information, click “Finish”.

8. Setup the Server

Make sure that a unique IP address is assigned.

9. Install the SGC CA Intermediate Certificate (step 9 to 11 is only required if you are installing a SGC SuperCert)

You now have SSL enabled. You may want to test the web site to ensure that everything is working correctly. Be sure to use https:// when you test connectivity to the site

Once your certificate is installed, we strongly advise you to make a backup of your certificate with its private key. The instructions to backup your certificate are available at the following knowledge Base solution:SO1704
